Pitch Finder is published by Inspector Network LLC for iOS and Android.
Is Pitch Finder free?
Yes. Pitch Finder is free to download and use, including both measurement methods, saved photo evidence, and Precision Reports.
What to include
- Your phone model and iOS or Android version.
- Your Pitch Finder version, shown at the bottom of the Field guide.
- Whether you were using the attic gauge, camera sight, or Precision Report.
- What you expected to happen and what happened instead.
- An optional screenshot that helps explain the issue.
Check screenshots for location details and property notes before sending them. You do not need to send a complete inspection record to ask for help.
How do I measure roof pitch?
Choose In the attic to place your phone's long edge along a rafter or its back flat against the roof deck. Direct contact is the recommended method when you can access the roof structure.
Choose Use the camera to align the sight with a roof edge from the ground. Stand square to the gable and follow the Field guide. Camera readings are estimates affected by your position and alignment.
What is a Precision Report?
A Precision Report puts a saved direct-contact reading on a photograph of the house. It includes the roof pitch, measurement method, GPS details when available, and measurement time for use with inspection reports and government paperwork. Follow the receiving organization's submission requirements.
Open a saved attic reading and choose Create Precision Report. Take a photo or choose one of that property from the same visit, then save or share the report. The time and location shown belong to the measurement, not to the selected photo.
How do I change permissions?
Open Field guide → App permissions to review access. Follow the setup prompts or use Open Settings when access is missing. You can also change permissions directly in your phone's Settings.
Camera access is needed for camera features. On iOS, motion access is needed for pitch readings. Location adds coordinates, but measurements can still be saved without it. Photo-saving permission depends on your phone and operating-system version.
Why is location missing or approximate?
The app uses the GPS information reported by your phone. Indoor reception, device settings, or limited location permission can affect the fix. Move outdoors if practical and check that location services and the app's location permission are enabled. The saved record identifies unavailable, approximate, or stale location rather than filling in missing coordinates.
Why did my image not appear in Photos?
The reading may still be saved in the app even if Photos saving failed. Open the saved record and use Add image to Photos. If access was declined, enable it in your phone's Settings first. Also check that the phone has available storage.
Do I need an account or internet connection?
No account is required. Measurement and local saving work offline. Opening a website or sharing through an online service may require a connection. GPS availability and quality depend on the phone and its surroundings.
Where are my readings stored?
Readings and Precision Reports are stored in the app on your phone. Images saved to Photos are separate copies. Export important records before uninstalling the app or changing phones. Inspector Network cannot retrieve your measurements because the app does not upload them to us.
How do I delete saved records?
Open Records → Delete all records from this phone and follow the confirmations. This removes all saved readings and Precision Reports in the app. It does not remove copies already in Photos, shared images, exported files, or backups. Individual readings cannot currently be deleted separately.
